Payment processor comparison
Stripe
Stripe is usually the best fit when checkout, subscriptions, or payouts need to live inside a custom application.

Benefits
- Excellent APIs for custom Next.js and mobile checkouts
- Subscriptions, usage billing, and Connect marketplaces
- Strong developer tooling, webhooks, and testing
Limitations
- In-person hardware is not as turnkey as Square
- You need more engineering time to launch than a hosted checkout
- Radar and Connect features add complexity and extra fees
Processing fees
Stripe charges a percentage plus a fixed fee per successful charge, with different rates for cards, other payment methods, and additional products. Review Stripe's Canadian pricing for the latest numbers.
